Learn how to provide essential first aid mental health at SCQF Level 5 in this in-person event starting on 12 Feb 2024. Become a First Aider for Mental Health in the Workplace! Accredited at SCQF Level 5. This course covers the content of the Level 1 course (A ½-Day course aimed at providing learners with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions and the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost the person towards professional help) but also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace. Syllabus • A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including: • What is first aid for mental health? • Identifying mental health conditions • Stress • Mental health conditions • Drugs and alcohol • First aid action plan for mental health Certification A Level Level 5 in First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years. Assessment The qualification is assessed through a written assessment paper and the practical demonstration of the first aid action plan for mental health. Learners must successfully pass both parts of the assessment to be awarded the qualification. (these are completed online for virtual courses) Important to note: The course does not train people to be mental health workers. It offers basic general information about mental health problems. The knowledge presented and understanding developed in the course will help to remove stigma and fear, and give confidence in approaching a person in distress. Mental Health First Aid is an initial response to distress, and all participants in the course understand that this help is given only until other suitable or professional help can be found.
