SCMA’s Childminding Induction Support Programme provides you with everything you need to know before becoming a Registered Childminder. This eLearning course is delivered online via an easy-to-use eLearning platform and is available all year round. You can complete this in your own time at home. The course itself takes around 8 -9 hours to complete and you are assessed using multiple choice questions. The course is made up of three modules, each with three sections, covering the topics: 1. What is Childminder? 2. The Road to Registration. 3. Laws, Standards and Guidance. 4. A Safe and Healthy Environment. 5. Risk Assessments. 6. Meeting the Needs of Children. 7. Parental Partnership. 8. Running your Business and 9. Next Steps. The Childminding Induction Support Programme also includes: a Strong Foundations booklet, universal and tailored support from the team at SCMA. Additionally, you will get your first years of SCMA Membership (which includes public liability insurance) for FREE once you have completed this course and are registered as a childminder with the Care Inspectorate. This programme costs £200, which will be fully funded if you are eligible for ITA funding and successfully complete the application and evidence process. If you are not eligible for this funding, you can call us to self-pay or enquire about alternative funding options. To apply for this ITA funding, please follow these 3 steps. 1. Start at ‘Apply for ITA Funding’ button below and fill in this short application form. 2. Email us your evidence of income within 4 weeks of applying (which must be signed and dated by yourself) to the email address below. This is evidence that you have earned a gross income of less than £22,000 in the past year. We will email you with details of types of evidence required and you are welcome to call us to clarify any details. 3. Once evidence is approved, we must have a phone call with you to confirm all details and we can the approve your funding and you can begin the eLearning induction course immediately after.”

Entry requirements

No previous qualifications are required. You must be able to provide evidence that your gross income was less than £22,000 in the past year. There are specific evidence types for this application process which will be shared with you once you have applied. Typically if you are employed the evidence is your last 3 payslips, if you are self-employed it is your last tax return, if you are on Universal Credit you can send you most recent statement and if you have no income (and are support by family or a partner) you can complete a 'Nil Income Declaration' form. You can call us to clarify which evidence you need to provide, depending on your circumstances.
