Security Guard Top-Up Training This top-up qualification is designed for learners who currently hold an SIA licence to work as a security officer. It is an upskilling course and from 1st October 2021, it has become a mandatory requirement. The course covers ways to recognise terrorism as well as minimising personal risk for security officers. WHAT DOES THIS COURSE COVER? This qualification consists of the following units: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in The Private Security Industry Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry DURATION AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS It is essential that security officers are able to communicate clearly and effectively. As an entry requirement for this course, all learners must have sufficient reading, writing, speaking and listening language skills. All learners must be aged 18 and over. This course is delivered in a classroom setting over one full day. The class timings are 9 am to 5 pm. ASSESSMENT Unit 1 – Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in The Private Security Industry This unit is assessed by a 10-question multiple-choice examination. The examination duration is 20 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass. Unit 2 – Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry This unit is assessed by a 16-question multiple-choice examination. The examination duration is 25 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass. CERTIFICATION Upon successful completion candidates will receive a Highfield Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Top-Up). The qualification is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). This qualification is supported by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which regulates the private security industry. Successful candidates can then apply to renew their SIA Security Officer Licence. This licence should allow the individual to operate as a qualified security officer in any part of the United Kingdom. WHY GET THIS QUALIFICATION Any business conducting guarding activity to secure a building or site may need trained security staff qualified as security officers who hold an SIA licence. It is designed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualification requirements. Emergency First Aid Training Course SCQF Level 6 The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how to assess an incident. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and the use of an AED, providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock. The qualification supports/approves workplace emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. Upon successful completion candidates will receive a Highfield Award in Emergency First Aid at Work at SCQF Level 6. The qualification is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF)

Entry requirements

Security operatives are likely to make calls to the emergency services or need to communicate clearly to resolve the conflict. It is therefore essential that security operatives are able to communicate clearly. As an entry requirement, all learners must possess sufficient language skills, This course is delivered over via blended learning and requires classroom attendance.
