Course description

This course is aimed at those actively seeking employment in the security industry whose current SIA security officer licence is due to expire. You need a current SIA licence to work as a security officer in the private security industry. This security package is for individuals wishing to renew their Security Officer and Emergency First at Work qualifications. Successful completions of these qualifications will enable the individual to renew their SIA Security Officer licence to work in the security industry. Emergency First Aid at Work Overview This qualification has been designed to allow candidates to obtain and then demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to be able to administer first aid to adults in the workplace and covers the following learning outcomes: 1. Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider 2. Be able to assess an incident 3. Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty 4. Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking 5. Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding 6. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock 7. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries In addition to the theory work the course includes practical work and assessment. The practical demonstrations are as follows: • Scene Survey and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation • Recovery Position • Choking • Bleeding Security Officer Overview Award for security officers top up is a qualification that has been developed to meet the mandatory SIA top up training requirement for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry. Qualified learners who complete the qualification will be eligible to apply to renew their SIA Security Officer licence Delivery of this course includes a variety of methods including self-study, virtual learning and face to face learning. Full details are listed below next to each unit. To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 6 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 1 hour and 50 minutes contact time (0.5-days) if self-study is undertaken. The qualifications consist of two units: • Unit 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry. (e-learning and face to face) • Unit 2: Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry. (self-study and face to face) Assessment: • Unit 1: Externally set and marked multiple-choice question (MCQ) examination made up of 10 questions (20 minutes) • Unit 2: Externally set and marked multiple-choice question (MCQ) examination made up of 16 questions (25 minutes).

Entry requirements

There is no entry requirements for Emergency First at Work. For Security Officer, you must be at least 16 years and above to participate in this training however you must be 18 years or older before you can obtain an SIA licence. Candidates taking their security officer training for their refresher will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate* that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. Candidates must provide us with a copy of their certificate before they start training. *This certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from course start date. Candidates must have current valid photographic ID such as a signed UK photo card driving licence or passport. Provisional driving licences are acceptable if they are in date. Candidates must also produce 2 other forms of ID with their name and address dated within 3 months of the assessment date. This could be documents such as bank or credit card statements, utility bill or job centre letter. Due to the nature of their work, candidates should, as a minimum, have language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening equivalent to the following qualifications or equivalent level: • An ESOL qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland • SQA Core Skills in Communication at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Level 5 A full list of Entry Requirements can be obtained by contacting us at enquiries@ngtraining.co.uk
