PDA Workplace Assessment using Direct and Indirect Methods (unit L&D9DI)
VocationalTraining for Care
Course details
Course description
The assessor’s award covers the key stage of the assessment process in relation to staff/candidate practice and underpinning knowledge. These include preparing to assess using the appropriate methods in relation to the units and criteria being applied, planning the assessment activity, assessing the practice/knowledge against predefined criteria and giving the candidate/staff member feedback on the outcome. This includes supporting candidates/staff to think about their job role and practice, reflecting on this and developing their underpinning knowledge. The assessor needs to be able to demonstrate how they did this and gave feedback to aid development where required. How will the course be taught? The candidate will be observed and will produce reflective accounts and products of their work. There will also be discussion with the candidate to support them to evidence their own practice and knowledge. This will take place during prearranged meetings, most likely all at Training for Care, but can be at another location if necessary, How will this help the learner vocationally? The assessor’s award is useful for learners who are in, or moving into, a supervisory capacity where they are required to monitor staff performance against certain criteria in areas depending on the CPD requirements and strategy of their organisation. For example, observing staff on a home visit to ensure good practice and service delivery against certain headings, making a decision on the level of competence and any development needs. As a qualified assessor, learners can also assess vocational awards in their workplace or other organisations, move into training settings and contribute to the wider development of a staff team.
Entry requirements
The assessor-candidate needs to have a job role in the childcare/adult care sector that includes assessment of learners in the learner’s place of work.
