COURSE DESCRIPTION: With almost three million workers the retail industry is the UKs largest private sector employer and is vital to the economy. Individuals who can demonstrate current knowledge and evidence certification relating to the sector will certainly fair more favourably to an employer than those who can’t. Taking these statistics on board and consulting with DWP, Partner Agencies and Employers to identify what would make an individual more attractive to a retail employer we put together the Routes to Retail 4-day course. The syllabus is made up of 6 modules; Working in Retail, Customer Services, Communication, Challenging Behaviour, Safe Moving & Handling (Objects), Emergency First Aid at Work. Completing the course would prove favourably on an application for employment, making an individual more attractive to a prospective employer. This course contributes to tackling Labour Market issues by addressing barriers for clients who would otherwise struggle to secure employment in sectors where there are restrictions to condition of employment eg; disclosure / criminal background, fitness to practice policies. We want to demonstrate inclusiveness for all learners by attracting individuals facing barriers to employment by helping them build the necessary skills to make them more employable in the sector. We want to ensure we continue to be inclusive by considering those who may find it more difficult to secure employment due to disability, ethnicity, previous convictions etc. Upskilling learners by offering modules that are non-mandatory however contribute to meeting the needs of the industry is of paramount importance. COURSE CONTENT: DAY 1 (AM) WORKING IN RETAIL. This 3 hour course covers what it’s like to work in the retail sector, career opportunities, what retail employers are looking for and the various roles eg; Cashier, Sales Assistant, Retail Associate, Retail buyer, Retail Manager, Merchandiser, Store Manager. HSC Futures Certificate. DAY 1 (PM) CUSTOMER SERVICES This 3-hour course covers working in a customer focussed role across various sectors. The course covers how to communicate effectively with customers, how to create a positive impression, how to develop and maintain customer service standards, how to plan good customer service. HSC Futures Certificate. DAY 2 (AM) COMMUNICATION This 3-hour course covers Verbal and non-verbal communication. The course will allow you to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients to ensure understanding and clarity in the relaying of information. The aims and objectives are communicating effectively, listening skills, touch, eye contact, body language, facial expressions, barriers to communication. HSC Futures Certificate. DAY 2 (PM) CHALLENGING BEVAVIOURS This 3-hour course covers situations where you may face challenging behaviour from individuals. The course will equip you with the skills and knowledge of how to deal with these situations appropriately. The content covers Legislation and the Law, Violence and Aggression in the Workplace, Risk Assessment, Warning Signs, Possible Trigger Factors, De-escalation Techniques, Defusing Acts of Aggression. HSC Futures Certificate. DAY 3 SAFE MOVING AND HANDLING (OBJECTS) This 1-day course is designed to highlight the problems associated with incorrect manual handling. It aims to identify the requirements to employees of the Manual Handling Operations 1992 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1992 (risk assessment). This course is to you in the safest aspects of moving and handling in the work place and to understand the risks to yourself. . The course covers practical assessments and a written multiple-choice assessment. HSC Futures Certificate. DAY 4 EFAW This one-day module is an abbreviated First Aid Course covering the most important situations and injuries. The course covers roles and responsibilities of an emergency first aider, assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR and AED use, Recovery Position, Choking, Seizures, Shock, Wounds and bleeding, Minor Injuries including cuts and grazes, minor burns and scalds. There is a set multiple choice examination (Qualsafe Awards) at the end of this session. Qualsafe Awards L3 Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate. QUALIFICATION GAINED: Other Awarding Body (HSC Futures Certificates and Qualsafe Awards L3 EFAW Certificate) ATTENDANCE: Short Course - Flexible start dates. There are various start dates, please contact the course provider for further information. DURATION: The course runs for 4 consecutive days from 09:00-17:00 COST: £200 plus VAT (£240).
