Course details

Course description

Ayrshire College, in partnership with the South Ayrshire Health amp; Social Care Partnership (HSCP), are offering a 6 month Fast Track NQ Social Services and Healthcare (with SVQ 2) course. This programme will embed fixed term paid employment with South Ayrshire HSCP in the areas of Care at Home and Day Care Services for 12 hours per week. If you are interested in providing care at home to a range of people who need assistance with daily living this could be the course for you. If you are kind and caring and motivated to help people to live their best life you should find this course both enjoyable and rewarding. Successful learners will achieve the SVQ2 in Health and Social Care which will allow them to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and be employed in the care sector. This could be your first step in a long and fulfilling career in health and social care.

Here's just some of what you will be doing: You will develop practical caring skills, including nutrition, hydration, personal care and pain management. You'll be increasingly aware of how to maintain safety and security when accessing people's homes. You will also look at various aspects of safeguarding, health and safety, and general safe practice in care. You will look at areas of support for yourself as well as those you care for. You will enhance your understanding of legislation, organisational policies and procedures in relation to safe effective care. You will increase your understanding of person-centred care and the importance of values, principles, privacy, dignity, equality and diversity. You will fine tune your communication skills as you become more aware of how we communicate and the barriers to communication that some people experience. You will be able to explain the importance of working in a multidisciplinary team and understand how team members work together to plan and implement the individual's care. You will develop an understanding of caring for people with dementia as well as how we develop across the lifespan and the impact this has on our needs and care requirements. You will be working 12 hours per week with South Ayrshire HSCP in Care at Home or Day Care Services.

Learning outcome

If you complete this course successfully you will be guaranteed an interview and possibly permanent employment with South Ayrshire HSCP or other organisations in the Health & Social Care sector. You will have developed transferable, essential skills in meaningful contexts to help you become more effective in life, learning, and work. This course will help you to become a more confident and effective worker and is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) so you can register with them as a Care and Support Worker.
