Course description

If you are ready to commit to developing a career in health or social care, we have an exciting new opportunity available from August 2022. The Access to HNC Health and Social care offers you the chance to begin at N5 in August and move onto a Higher course in the new year, on an accelerated route to our HNC courses.

You will develop your study skills, such as researching, writing reports, analysing data, academic writing and Harvard referencing in preparation for an HNC course the following academic year. We plan to introduce you to subjects such as prevention of infection, child protection, understanding mental health and mental illness and learning about how the human body functions along with studying our core units of human development, social influences on behaviour and care values and principles. &&This course has been designed to ensure that there are no unnecessary barriers to learning or assessment. The individual needs of our students will be taken into account when planning our teaching and assessing. The college will provide support for everyone to develop the study skills you will need. You will have a course tutor who will support you on your personal learning journey and give you career guidance. Student services can help you with funding applications, accessing services, and adapting to college life. As the college motto says 'start here, go anywhere; this could be your year to develop your future career.

Learning outcome

When you successfully complete this course, you'll have the choice of: Moving onto an HNC course such as HNC Social Services, HNC Healthcare Practice, HNC Social Science or HNC Counselling Starting your career in the Care Sector with employment as a Support Worker, Home Care Worker or Care Assistant; earn whilst you study.
