Throughout The Introduction to Renewable Energy and Technologies course you will be supported by a great team of qualified craftsmen as you work through the Certificates in Construction Skills (Electrical and Plumbing) at SCQF Level 4 (6619-08). Your introduction to the sectors focuses on practical electrical and plumbing installation work. Giving you the opportunity to study key areas within both while supporting growth in the math’s and science areas which are essential for moving up through the levels. We will start by giving you an Introduction to health and safety in construction sector moving on to learning about the main tools and equipment used by both trades and how we use them to carry out basic operations. You’ll look at PVC sheathed wiring systems, Hot and cold water systems (used for most house wiring and plumbing installs). ELECTRICAL content from: Connecting flex to common apparatus Introduction to the construction industry Assembling 13amp switched sockets wired in ring final circuit Constructing PVC wiring systems Cutting, bending, joining and threading conduit Installing one way lighting circuits Installing two way lighting circuits PLUMBING content from: Removing and refitting water-filled radiators Working with non-manipulative fittings Introduction to the construction industry Bending and jointing copper pipes Connecting pipes and fittings to appliances Constructing combined frames Installing rain water goods Working with low carbon steel pipes and fittings Away from the workshop, you’ll look at other areas relevant to improving your employability skills.

Learning outcome

In this course you will have built transferable Essential Skills in meaningful contexts to help you become more effective in life, learning, and work. This could be communication, numeracy, ICT, working with others, and problem solving.
