NQ Introduction to Film & Broadcasting

Course description

Are you interested in a career in media? Are you unsure which path to take? You can get on the right track with our course.

Our day at college is varied Some days we will plan, film and edit video productions. On other days we will listen to radio/podcasts. We'll also look at job opportunities in media and beyond. &Here is a more detailed look at what we do: Learn how to operate video camera and shoot our own video material. We also learn to edit video material and looking at the processes, techniques and styles used to produce film sequences. Produce digital photography; create and enhance images. Develop computer animations while using software to produce 2D and 3D graphic animations. Develop sound production skills by recording and editing a range of sound. Learn radio journalism by planning, scripting and recording your own news bulletins, podcasts and radio shows Finding out what's involved in creating media content, from planning and research, through to production Build transferable essential skills. This could be communication, numeracy, ICT, working with others, and problem solving. Our introduction course is an ideal blend of practical skills coupled with the theory behind them. And if all that isn't enough you may also have the chance to: Take part in our Short Film Awards where we screen the best short films from the year. Take part in live projects. Recent examples include a Health & Safety video for Morrison Construction, and an ad campaign for Police Scotland. Hear from leading employers such as the BBC, STV and advertising agencies.

Learning outcome

The most surprising thing about the Intro to Film and Broadcasting course is how much you will learn from just studying and diving deep into the world of filmmaking. While most film courses I had considered before this had really focused on the technical side of filmmaking, this course caters to students looking to begin a career in any area in the creative industries. With additional qualifications, you may be able to progress to a degree programme, such as Broadcast Production or Filmmaking and Screenwriting at UWS, or media courses at e.g. Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, The Royal Conservatoire Scotland, Stirling, Queen Margaret or Edinburgh Napier Universities.
