Toilet training helps children to manage their pee and faeces while awake or sleep. It teaches them how to recognise the need for the toilet without adult prompting and shows them how to use it successfully and independently and follow hygiene guidelines. We begin this course by studying the history of toilet training and establishing its importance. We also describe the first stages of toilet training and trace the psychological development of toddlers. We explain how the body’s systems develop and define terms like ‘assisted baby toilet training’.

The course then explores various approaches to toilet training, including the Brazelton Method. We examine different types of operant conditioning, including the use of physiological features. We answer key questions like ‘how can parents prepare for toilet training?’ and ‘when can I start toilet training my child?’.

This course provides the techniques and tools you need to successfully train your child to use the toilet. We examine the everyday experience of toilet training and trace the factors affecting it to show you how parents can prepare for the experience. This course has no prerequisites and suits anyone who wants to develop the important childcare skill of toilet training and learn its significance in early child development. Sign up to help your child move on from diapers and make your lives easier and less messy!
