‘Clinical governance’ is the integration of leadership behaviours, policies, procedures and improvement methods used to boost organisational efficiency. Every staff member must be aware of national legislation promulgated to protect workers and the general public from harm. This course examines the relevant UK laws, policies and regulations governing adult care, such as the Care Act 2014 and the Health and Social Care Act 2008. We explain technical terms like ‘person-centred care’ and ‘fit and proper person’ and explain the reasoning behind policy changes.

We then explain the concept of accountability, highlighting the benefits of personal responsibility. The course compares the purposes of various service delivery models, including the domiciliary, remote and residential care approaches.
