The course begins with a definition of ‘animal welfare’. We show you that ‘welfare’ does not just include food but also encompasses psychological wellbeing, hygiene, proper nutrition and the animal’s environment. We also discuss the origins and domestic histories of various common animals that live in our homes and farms. We use real-world examples to demonstrate how veterinary professionals use various behavioural, physical and physiological indicators to assess an animal’s health. The course explains how to monitor such indicators to keep track of the physical and mental health of animals in your care.

We then teach you various first-aid techniques used to treat animals in emergency situations. The course focuses on common pets like cats, dogs, horses and birds to prepare you for dangerous domestic situations. We then teach you how to provide animal care to rabbits, guinea pigs, reptiles and ornamental fish. This course has no prerequisites and provides the knowledge and skills needed to assess your pet's health and care for it. It also suits anyone interested in a career related to animal care.
