Course description

The NC Accounting SCQF Level 5 introduces learners to techniques that are important in the accounting sector and is designed to enable learners with no previous experience of accounting to gain the necessary skills and knowledge required for employment and further study.It develops knowledge and understanding of book-keeping, financial and management accounting and gives progression onto further study i.e. SVQ,  HNC and/or AAT registration.This course is suitable for school leavers or other young people looking for employment in an accounting or administration field; it may also be attractive if you are a mature student wishing to change career direction or return to full or part time study.Mandatory units are: Recording Transactions in the Ledger Developing skills for employment Handling Wages and Salaries Analysing Accounting Information Preparing Financial Accounting Preparing Management Accounting Spreadsheets for Administrators IT Solutions for Administrators*  Communication (core skills)Optional units are: Recording Cash Transactions Contract Law: An Introduction Financial Skills for small businesses Preparing Management Accounting Information Analysing Accounting Information Preparing Financial Accounting Information Professional Ethics for Accountants Recording Transactions in the LedgerUnits are also offered as standalone units which can be studied individually. 

Learning outcome

Academic: You can progress on to our Higher National Certificate (HNC) Business, Accounting, Admin & IT or  AAT registration or SVQ Apprenticeship route.Employment/Career: You can apply for a range of accounting employment positions, including Modern Apprenticeships within local organisations.
