Course description

This course normally provides a progression route from SVQ 2 but can be studied as a stand alone course. Students also enrol onto the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship and will benefit from obtaining three nationally recognised certificates or enhancements as part of the two year course.Students complete a minimum of 14 units.Students must complete the following 6 mandatory units: Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security Communicate in a business environment Maintain and store records within the workplace Implement and monitor site hygiene and bio-security Plan and manage the health and welfare of livestock Develop and implement plans for the storage and utilisation of organic by-productsStudents will also complete the following 8 units: Plan and manage grass and forage harvesting and storage Provide, monitor and maintain the supply of feed and water to livestock Establish and confirm pregnancy in Livestock Monitor and maintain livestock during pregnancy Deliver basic treatments to livestock Deliver non-surgical procedures to livestock Monitor and maintain grassland and forage crops to support livestock grazing Load and unload animals for transportation

Entry requirements

Must have full-time employment on a farm with a named employer/supervisor. All applicants should be fit and healthy.All applicants will be interviewed to ascertain suitability for the course.Applicants should have Core Skills at Intermediate 2 or National 5 level.
