Course description
This agricultural course aims to give entrants to the industry an understanding of husbandry techniques that have been developed over many years. The course also aims to develop the skills required to handle the many technical and financial aspects of farming. This course is mainly for young people entering the industry but is also suitable for mature students (depending on funding). Successful students will gain a SVQ level 2 in Agriculture and a Modern Apprenticeship (MA) certificate at the end of year 1.Candidates must complete a minimum of 12 units.Students must complete the five core mandatory units: Monitor and maintain health, safety and security Devleop an awareness of environmental good practice Agree how to manage and improve own performance in a business environment Prepare and operate a tractor with attachments Maintain the health and well-being of livestockStudents will also complete an additional seven units: Prepare feed and water supplies for livestock Monitor and maintain the care of livestock during and after parturition Establish, monitor and maintain livestock within indoor accommodation Prepare outdoor sites for livestock Store and maintain harvested crops Assist with the maintenance of equipment Select and move animals from one location to another

Entry requirements
Must have full-time employment on a farm with a named employer/supervisor. All applicants should be fit and healthy.All applicants will be interviewed to ascertain suitability for the course.Applicants should have Core Skills at Intermediate 1 or National 4 level.
