Course description
This course offers a broad general introduction to the Care Sector and will give you a flavour of various care settings including health, social care and childcare. It's an ideal starting point for anyone who returning to study after a break in education and would allow prospective SWAP Access to Nursing students to brush up on some Study/Core Skills.This course is a fast-track course which will prepare you to begin a career in Care. It is 2.5 days and could be worked around part time work. Social Services in Scotland: An IntroductionAn introduction to how Social Services are organised, provided and delivered in Scotland. This unit will contain case studies and how individuals' needs are met. Improving Health & WellbeingThe purpose of this unit is to allow students to be able to undertake a planned activity to improve their own health or the health of someone else. Care: Values and PrinciplesThis unit will look at the variety of care services and how they meet the needs of individuals. Healthy Eating in a Care SettingLearn how a balanced diet contributes to a person's health and well-being. And understand how to meet the dietary needs of individual service users. You'll also learn to plan an appropriate one day menu for a selected service user and understand the good practice related to purchasing, storing and preparing foods. Care: Human Development and BehaviourThis unit looks at how people develop from a new born baby to old age pensioners. It covers conditions associated with children through adults to the elderly. It links this to what care services are required. HIV Hep B and Hep C InfectionsAn in depth look at a range of infectious diseases, how they are treated. The unit will also focus on prevention of diseases. Communication Level 5This unit explains how to use reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in situations in your personal life, at work, and in education. Information and Communication Technology and Cyber SecurityThese units will enable you to use straightforward information and communication technology (ICT) effectively to access, process, and present information in familiar, everyday settings. You will learn how to stay safe and keep your own and other peoples information safe in an online environment.
Learning outcome
Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to NC courses in Health and Social Care and Childcare or the SWAP Access to Nursing (other eligibility criteria apply).
