Discovering Careers in the Screen Industries with Into Film

The UK has a globally recognised reputation for creating some of the most influential films, TV, animation, games and special effects in the world. As the screen industries continue to evolve and grow, there are increasing opportunities across the UK for people to get involved in a wide range of roles.

Scotland's screen industries have seen significant growth in recent years, with its stunning locations attracting a range of new studios that accommodate major feature films (Frankenstein, Glenrothan, I Swear, California Schemin') and high-end TV productions (Dept Q, Outlander, Half Man, One Day). In total, the screen sector in Scotland contributed £718 million to Scotland's economy in 2023, providing 12,260 full-time equivalent jobs, up from £627 million and 10,940 in 2021. Scotland's film, TV and games companies offer a wide array of opportunities, from production crew, developers, caterers and many more roles which may be less apparent than acting and directing.

Into Film (intofilm.org) offers young people, teachers, career advisers and parents information, advice and resources to learn more about the variety of roles within this broad industry. This aligns with their work providing resources, training and opportunities for teachers using film in the classroom and supporting young people in making films.

In this session the Into Film team will discuss the current screen industry landscape, the roles which are most in demand and how to find further information on working within the screen industries.
