IF YOU’VE GOT A CALLING TO TEACH, THEN UWS’S BA (HONS) EDUCATION PROGRAMME WILL HELP YOU ESTABLISH A CAREER AS A PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER. This programme is designed to equip you with the skills to work effectively within a primary school setting and will provide you with a broad-based education in contemporary subjects.UWS’s BA (Hons) Education programme also offers the flexibility of combining your studies in education with a specialism and provides valuable opportunities for school placement throughout each year of study – giving you the hands-on experience needed to complement your academic studies.
PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS
- This programme provides a broad base in contemporary subjects and will provide youwith the necessary skills to become an effective primary school teacher.
- Flexible study options allow you to combine your studies in education with a specialism, including: o Literacy o Mathematics o Health & wellbeing o Science o Languages o Inclusive education
- You’ll spend 30 weeks of this programme on placement so that you gain hands-on experience to complement your academic studies.
- This programme is accredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
PROGRAMME DETAILS
Year 1 Five core modules and one option module. Option modules: French / Spanish Year 2 Four core modules and two option modules. Option modules (1): Mathematics / Children’s Literacy /Physical Education / Digital Literacy / Languages Option modules (2): Controversial Issues and Citizenship / Science in Society / SupportingMultilingual Learners / Expressive Arts and Culture Year 3 Five core modules and one option module. Option modules relate to specialisms. Year 4 Four core modules. School Experience and Dissertation are double modules. Your Dissertation will be on a subject of your choice.
CAREERS
Eligible BA (Hons) Education graduates are guaranteed a one-year induction post that will enable you to achieve the standard required for full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. A number of BA (Hons) Education students have secured posts in various other countries after their period of probation.The BA (Hons) Education is highly-regarded by employers outside of education, recognising the strong personal transferable skills that our graduates have developed.
