Grow your understanding of barbering and develop practical skills in men’s hair styling, cutting, colouring and lightening.

Course description

Our experienced staff will teach you the fundamentals of client consultation, shampoo and conditioning, basic styling, cutting, colouring and lightening as well as perming techniques. There will also be the opportunity to further develop your creative skills in barbering.

Promoting and selling a variety of products and services alongside reception duties and the importance of health and safety will also be covered.

You will learn all of these skills in a realistic work environment, which provides preparation for work placement and excellent salon experience for progression to employment.

What you will experience

This course will include:

  • Working on real clients
  • Client consultation – and Health and Safety
  • Shampooing, conditioning and styling techniques
  • Men’s cutting
  • Colouring and lightening hair
  • Creative barbering work
  • Reception duties and selling techniques
  • Work experience in a local Barbers
  • Underpinning knowledge for Barbering services

What you will need

A laptop or similar device will be required for this course.

Entry requirements

  • Completion of Introduction to HairdressingVRQ Level 1 Diploma in An Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector (Hair Route), or equivalent

Or

  • Experience of full-time work in a salon environment

Or

  • Completion of a Schools-College course – Hairdressing
  • Two National 5 passes including English are also desirable
  • Relevant work experience or qualifications may be considered if you can demonstrate the ability to develop and learn essential skills.
