Course description

This demanding course is designed to provide practical skills and theoretical knowledge for those wishing to enter healthcare professions covering skills required to meet the professional standards demanded of the NHS workforce.

 

Subjects include: Safe Working Practice, Therapeutic Relationships, Sociology and Anatomy and Physiology.

 

A work placement is required; therefore, there is a need to have a good level of physical and emotional well-being. An occupational health assessment is carried out by the NHS to assess fitness to practice.

Entry requirements

Two Highers in academic subjects (or equivalent) (English is preferable) at Grade C or above in relevant subject areas or equivalent or successful completion of a SCQF Level 6 qualification, including Communication F3GB 12. A qualification in Biology, or evidence of study in Anatomy and Physiology, is advantageous. 

 

Selection will be based on qualifications, a satisfactory personal statement, written exercise and a reference.

 

As a placement is involved, you will require a PVG check. It is also expected that you will have good health, wellbeing, and resilience to cope with the demands of care provision.

 

Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Progression

Completion may allow progression to 1st year undergraduate nursing degree programmes at university.

There may be an opportunity for 2nd year entry however this will require extra clinical hours in practice and further clinical competencies to be met.
