Course description
Data Science will give you an awareness and appreciation of the underlying computing and algorithmic principles driving data science technologies. The next generation HNC will focus on the analytical and data processing skills needed to begin a career as a data scientist or analyst.
Our HNC course will allow you to explore a variety of technologies in this digital world and understand the underlying concepts. You will be introduced to a selection of areas that impact aspects of all our daily lives, including Basic Computing Concepts, Software Development, Data Science, Relational Database Principles, Internet of Things, Statistics and Artificial Intelligence.
Mandatory units are:
- Digital skills.
- Professional practice in computing.
Optional units may include:
- Computer science.
- Software development.
- Database.
- Statistics.
- Big data.
- Internet of Things.
- Artificial intelligence.
- Emerging technologies.
Entry requirements
- One Higher at Grade C or above in a relevant* subject AND two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above; OR
- National Qualification at SCQF level 6 in a relevant subject such as Digital Media Computing, Computing: Technical Support or Software Development; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience
* relevant subjects include Business Studies, Chemistry, Computing, English, History, Information Systems, Mathematics or Physics.
Progression
The HNC in Computing: Data Science will prepare you for a career in programming, data science or analysis.
Continuing Study
You have an opportunity to continue studying with us, progressing on to:
- *HND Data Science - as long as you meet the entry requirements: Successful completion of all units, good attendance record and a good reference from your lecturers.
- Entry to a range of university degree courses.
