Course description

Our Civil Engineering MSc will give you a comprehensive overview of what it takes to deliver a successful civil engineering project. You’ll learn the advanced capabilities and in-depth knowledge needed to thrive in your civil engineering career and solve work challenges such as environmental sustainability.

You’ll develop your research skills by completing a dissertation on a topic you want to explore further, supported by our academic staff.

Designed and delivered by a multi-disciplinary team of leading academics, who have over 60 years' experience in training civil engineers. Abertay has close links with industry and a high research rating in Civil and Environmental Engineering within Scotland.

You’ll graduate with the ability to manage and solve the multi-layered environmental challenges within current civil engineering projects.

The programme can be studied full time for one year or over two years part-time.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have at least a lower second class (2:2) honours degree or equivalent qualifications in Civil Engineering or Civil and Environmental Engineering and other related disciplines such as Water Resources, Irrigation, Infrastructure, Public Health or Sanitary, Municipal, Geotechnical etc. Applicants with non-standard qualifications will be considered on an individual basis, determined by prior study, work experience, professional qualifications, and references.
