What is Marketplace?

Want to gain valuable insight into the world of work? Marketplace can help! Discover work placements, careers events, class talks, skills sessions, industry resources and more.

It’s a home for opportunities offered by local employers – bringing the working world to life for school pupils and students.

Interested? Use Marketplace in three simple steps:

  1. Go to Marketplace. Discover hundreds of offers posted by employers.
  2. Explore offers. You can filter by location, opportunity type, industry or learning outcome. You can even narrow it down to those designed with you in mind – whether you're in school, college, out of education, a parent or an educator.
  3. Choose an opportunity that interests you. Each offer has a details page that tells you everything you need to know and how to get involved.

Who is Marketplace for?

You’ll find offers designed for:

  • primary and secondary pupils
  • college students
  • 16- to 24-year-olds not in education
  • educators
  • parents and carers

What opportunities are on Marketplace?

Employers can offer three types of opportunities:

  1. Work inspiration and preparation. It could be a class talk or challenge, workplace visit, career and apprenticeship event, skills session or mock interview.
  2. Work experience and placements. Find opportunities from employers to experience what it’s really like in the workplace. Placements are available during the school holidays or any time of year if you’re not in education.
  3. Influence the influencer. These events are for parents and carers, educators, careers advisers and other practitioners. You’ll find activities or resources from employers about their role, company or sector to help inspire young people.

Are you an educator looking to work with local employers?

Another free option that brings careers to your classroom is Founders4Schools.

It works a little differently to Marketplace. You can explore a wide variety of job roles and reach out to volunteers. They'll then share insights into their career or industry with your pupils or students, either in person or virtually.
