Job description

Help families create precious memories at the toughest time of their lives.

Calum’s Cabin is a place of comfort, connection, and care for families facing the unimaginable — a child’s cancer diagnosis. Founded in memory of Calum Speirs, our charity provides free holiday homes, hospital accommodation, and financial support to hundreds of families each year across the UK and Ireland.

We are now looking for our first-ever Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help shape the next stage of our growth. This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership with meaningful, hands-on work, and to make a lasting difference in the lives of families when they need it most.

The Role

As Chief Operating Officer, you will work closely with the Board of Trustees to lead and deliver the day-to-day operations of Calum’s Cabin.

Your role will include:

  • Translating strategy into operational plans and driving delivery
  • Overseeing the booking and management of Calum's Cabin holiday homes and hospital accommodation, fundraising operations, HR, finance, governance, and supporter care
  • Leading and supporting a small, dedicated team and our wonderful volunteers
  • Strengthening our systems, processes, and culture as we continue to grow
  • Representing Calum’s Cabin with warmth, professionalism, and compassion

This is an ideal role for someone who is excited to blend operational leadership with direct impact — where every action helps families at one of the most critical times in their lives.

About You

You will be an experienced operational leader with:

  • A track record of delivering effective operations and improving systems and team performance
  • Strong finance, HR, compliance, and governance knowledge
  • Outstanding communication, people leadership, and collaboration skills
  • Experience in the charity or voluntary sector
  • A values-driven, emotionally intelligent, and proactive approach

Experience with Salesforce CRM or an understanding of the health service landscape in Scotland would be an advantage but is not essential.

What We Offer

  • Salary of £55,000–£60,000 per annum
  • 5% pension contribution
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Flexible hybrid working and a family-focused, supportive culture
  • The chance to make a real and tangible difference every day

Job location: Flexible within Scotland, with regular travel to Calum’s Cabin sites
