Job purpose: Four year Modern Apprenticeship with one year at Glasgow Clyde College. Working with time served colleagues within our Helen Street Factory. Familiarisation with welding equipment, understanding of welding processes, procedures and associated consumables. Develop skills in welding with TIG and MMA in a range of materials, diameters and thickness. Learn to work safely and maintain a tidy working environment. 38 Hour working week.
What will I learn? The first or second year may be spent at college working on SQC and NC. If college is to be attended in the second year, the first year shall be spent training at our factory in Glasgow. Training will be a combination of familiarisation and use of work equipment, working under supervision of experienced tradesmen to develop trade skills and spend time in other areas of the business such a stores, mechanical and steel fabrication. You shall develop skills in weld preparation and set up, welding in TIG and MMA processes of Stainless and Carbon Steels, identification of weld defects. This shall typically lead to a trade test to become coded in various weld procedures. Team work, problem solving and interpretation & communication of technical terminology. You shall be trained in the use of work equipment, manual handling, risk assessment and values of maintaining a safe and well organised work environment.
What qualifications or qualities are required? The ideal candidate must be keen, enthusiastic with an interest in working in an engineering environment.
