Job description

Job purpose: • To assist in the provision of a multi-skilled workforce ensuring that the Council’s quality and performance objectives are met and to carry out any duties commensurate with the post as directed by supervisors and coordinators, senior officers and team leaders. • To assist the Council in providing a customer focussed service and ensure that all works are carried out to an acceptable standard. • To assist the Council in meeting its duties in relation to health and safety in the management and delivery of its building repair, building improvement, investment, and housing quality standard work. • To undertake any duties in support of the operations of the service as instructed by supervisors and co-ordinators, senior officers and team leaders. • To work towards a Modern Apprenticeship in Joinery

What will I learn? • To learn to carry out all tasks fitting with the grade and skill level of the post holder in support of the provision of a joinery & multi trade service including visiting tenants’ properties and empty homes to undertake maintenance and general improvements, window and door replacement programme, kitchen replacement programme, assist with bathroom replacements and adaptations, undertake new build house construction • To attend training as provided through the Modern Apprenticeship and to maintain an excellennt level of achievement in accordance with the course outlined • To complete & hand in monthly diary sheets and twice monthly evidence sheets as part of the Modern Apprenticeship role • To develop Core Skills and Metaskills • To learn to carry out written and verbal instructions and provide feedback to supervisor or team leader on issues related to tasks to be undertaken • To learn how to liaise with tenants/owners to provide a customer focussed service

What qualifications or qualities are required? Essential Criteria: • Knowledge of construction techniques and practices for all activities fitting with the post. • Good communication and interpersonal skills • Good literacy skills to read and understand drawings/ specifications, write notes and basic reports • Good numeracy ability to take measurements and perform calculations • Ability to work on own initiative and also as part of a team. • Good level of IT literacy and working mobile equipment e.g. Laptops, Tablets etc Desirable: • Organisation and forward planning skills • Knowledge of Construction Materials and Detailing, Common Building Defects etc. • Knowledge of Energy Efficiency, Sustainability and Renewable Energy • Knowledge of Conservation, Repair & Maintenance Solutions • A range of additional skills to support multi trade activities • Driving Licence
