TechFest

TechFest talks - what is the circular economy?

We’ve all heard of Artificial Intelligence (AI), usually in science fiction films, but AI is now being used to help medical research. this gives us the opportunity to improve detection and diagnoses of illnesses and how to treat them better.

TechFest talks - inside forensic science

Speaker: ​​​​​​​Professor Lucina Hackman from the Leverhulme Research Centre for Foren

In 1912, the brutal murder of a wealthy woman at her home in Scotland led to a major national police investigation. This sad event was the subject of the Inside Forensic Science podcast where investigators and forensic scientists were asked ‘what would you do differently if the investigation took place today?’ At this event, join Professor Lucina Hackman as she discusses how she used her expertise as a forensic anthropologist in the podcast.

TechFest

TechFest talks - future energy

Time: ​​​​​​​8pm

6 members of the Energy Institute’s Aberdeen Young Professionals Network (YPN) embarked on a tour across Scotland’s future energy landscape. Passionate about playing a practical role in combating climate change, they travelled 500 miles by ferry, electric vehicle and train, interviewing energy experts and graduates to discover what needs to be done to meet net zero. The tour of some of the most innovative and dramatic energy projects in Scotland has been turned into a documentary which premiered alongside COP26. Join us for a showing of the documentary plus questions and answers from the team members.

New to this year, TechFest’s STEM Next essay competition was open to 16 to 18 year olds. It was a solo project that needed independent research and writing which had over 90 students from all over the UK signed up to complete. Hosted by Northsound 1’s Lauren Mitchell, we’ll be announcing the winning students and celebrating all of the competitors’ phenomenal achievements!

Unlocking digitally enabled learning

This Friday lunchtime Skills Development Scotland will be unveiling a new Digitally Enabled Learning Platform that will provide fully funded access to high quality online learning to adults over 24 living in Scotland. Digital learning can play a key role in addressing the skills needs arising as a result of the pandemic, emerging technologies and the transition to net zero.

Join the event to find out how small business owners and their teams can benefit from access to catalogues of thousands of expert-led courses enabling them to gain skills how, when and where best suits them.

In addition to a demonstration of the platform, you will hear from FSB Scotland on the importance of learning to small businesses and be able to ask questions of members of SDS’s policy and digital teams.
