Prison officer

‘When I meet a prisoner... and I’ve supported him and guided him with a positive attitude, and he’s doing really well on the outside, that’s the most enjoyable part of my job.'

As a behavioural change officer for the Scottish Prison Service Jennifer helps offenders turn their lives around.

‘When I first came into the job I thought the job was locking doors. I didn’t realise there was so much interaction with a prisoner,’ she says.

She began her career as a hairdresser, ending up running her own business.

She also worked as a bus driver and was a part-time foster carer for the Kibble organisation.

All her experience, and the skills she developed in these roles, then came together when she joined the Prison Service, firstly as a transporter and now in her current role.
