New support site dedicated to parents

It can be difficult to know how to support your children with their career - from where to begin, or when to find the time.

The jobs landscape is changing. New jobs are being invented every day. Qualifications have shifted beyond recognition.

But as a guardian, you can’t ignore the impact you'll have on their career choices. And to help your kids get the most from their career, it’s important to start the conversation early.

That’s where My Kid’s Career comes in.

We’ve worked with our expert careers advisers to develop toolkits that’ll guide you through every milestone – from choosing their subjects, applying for an apprenticeship or deciding which university to go to.

What we've got

Whether they’re focused on further education, keen to explore apprenticeships, or would prefer to go straight into the world of work, we’ll help you plot their journey to where they want to go.

We’ve broken the site down into six sections:

Jobs in demand
Focus on the jobs, industries and skills which will be important in the future.

Career paths
An overview of the different routes and pathways open to your child.

Careers discussions
Start the conversation with these guides, developed with our careers advisers.

Your questions
Answers to the questions we’re asked most frequently by parents.

Your stories
Experiences and confessions from a community of parents and carers.

About us
A little bit about who we are, and what we do.

How we can help

In case you didn’t know, we’re run by Skills Development Scotland, Scotland’s national skills agency.

Working with organisations and employers at a national and local level, we’ve got the up-to-date jobs information that’ll help your kids make informed choices.

And our in-depth careers guidance will encourage them to self-reflect and think about the choices are right for them.

Our services

Whatever their need, age or stage – we’re here to help you find the future that fits your child.

And remember, if you require additional support, our careers service is open at any time and any age.

Access their advice through your child’s school, drop into one of our centres or call us on 0800 917 8000.
