Course description

Database applications are a powerful resource, managing and analysing high volumes of data to produce the quantity and quality of information that business today demands. This high-level certification programme enables candidates to use the many advanced tools available in database applications to better manage and organise structured information. Successful completion of this module will enable candidates to maximise database functions in order to manage/analyse high volumes of data, thus enabling the production of the quantity and quality of information demanded in business today. It has been specifically designed to: Allow users to become more confident, efficient and effective in using a database application  Prove mastery of the application  Enable users to retrieve and produce higher quality management information  Improve user productivity  This Advanced ECDL course is a Level 3 qualification (QCF) - roughly equivalent to SCQF Level 6 in Scotland - and is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). Please note that although there are four Advanced ECDL Modules and these can enrolled on, completed and certified independently of each other, you only need to complete all four modules if you choose to. This course is highly comprehensive, and has been developed with input from computer users, subject matter experts and practising computer professionals from all over the world - this ensures relevance and accuracy of module content. Individuals with Advanced ECDL Database certified skills will be able to: Understand key concepts of database development and usage  Create a relational database using advanced table creation features and complex relationships between tables  Design and use queries to create a table, update, delete and append data.  Refine queries using wildcards, parameters and calculations  Use controls and subforms to enhance forms and improve functionality  Create report controls to perform calculations Create subreports and enhance report presentation  Enhance productivity by working with macros and use linking and importing features to integrate data Upon completion of this course you should be able to maximise the Microsoft Access package using skills and knowledge that will set you apart in today's competitive job market.

Entry requirements

Prospective students should ideally have the ECDL certification and/or previous experience using computers and common software applications. It is essential that you have previous experience in using a computer, the Windows interface and Windows terminology. This course requires you to manage your workload independently with tutor support which would be available via email and telephone. You would be assigned contact details and guidelines for your tutor once enrolled on course.
