Emergency First Aid Course content: Understand the role of the first-aider and preventing cross infection; The need for recording accidents and use of available equipment. Carry out a scene survey to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency; Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure); Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation incorporating the use of an AED. Identify and treat a casualty who is choking, administer first-aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding, treat a casualty who is suffering from shock; Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters). Assessment: Question paper and observation Certification: Candidates will receive a SQA Emergency First Aid certificate - valid for 3 years
Be physically able to meet assessment criteria i.e. placing a casualty into the recovery position.
