Course description
Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence. The HABC Award for Working as a CCTV Operator (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6 has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualification and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a CCTV operative. Subjects covered include roles and responsibilities of CCTV operators, codes of practice, operational procedures and guidelines, CCTV equipment and operation and surveillance techniques. The qualification comprises 3 mandatory units: - Unit 1 - Working within the private security industry - Unit 2 - Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security Industry - Unit 3 - Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment within the Private Security Industry Assessment Working within the Private Security Industry This unit will be assessed by an externally set and marked multiple choice question paper consisting of 40 questions. The examination will last for 60 minutes and learners will be required to correctly answer 28 of the 40 questions in order to pass. 70% pass mark. Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security Industry . This unit will be assessed by an externally set and marked multiple choice question paper consisting of 40 questions. The examination will last for 60 minutes and learners will be required to correctly answer 28 out of the 40 questions in order to pass. 70% pass mark Practical use of a CCTV System This unit will be assessed by an externally set and internally marked practical assessment. 100% pass mark This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the SVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry such as security guarding or door supervision.
Entry requirements
Entry Requirements No formal qualification is required for this course but candidates have to be 16+ but will be unable to apply for an SIA licence until they reach 18. Security Operatives in the course of their work are likely to be required to make calls to the Emergency Services, or need to communicate to resolve conflict. Therefore it is essential that security operatives are able to communicate clearly, so Basic English language skills are necessary.
