Alternative to Higher English (FA1W 12 & FA58 12)

Course description

This course offers student an alternative to doing Higher English. The course comprises of 2 units: NC Communication and Literature 1. Successful completion of Alternative to Higher English will provide a basis for students wishing to progress to Higher Education courses. It is accepted by some Higher Education establishments as an entry requirement. NC Communication: This unit seeks to develop the ability to respond to and produce complex written and oral communication. There are eight Learning Outcomes: Reading; Writing, Speaking and Listening. All Learning Outcomes must be achieved in order to gain the unit. Assessment is done at the student's pace. There are no external exams. Literature 1: This unit is designed to develop the skill of Literary Analysis and should enable you to make independent judgements about literary texts. Students will study two or three of the following: a novel, a play, a film and some poetry and do three Learning Outcomes which include: 2 Critical Essays & 1 unseen text. All Learning Outcomes must be achieved in order to gain the unit. Assessment is done at the student's pace. There are no external exams
