Brave film poster

It’s not just great ideas and technical skill that make you right for a career in creative. There are lots of other skills the industry is crying out for.

Creative types should be:

Brilliant at hitting tight deadlines – Clients usually want the work done quickly and you could end up juggling several jobs at the one time. How do handle school or college assignments? Are you up the whole night before they’re due in, or do you plan ahead giving yourself time to make changes and do the best job possible?

Ready to take direction – Like any job, sometimes you will be told what to do. Maybe not by your boss, but by a client. They’ll have certain things they need from the project and you need to make sure they get them.

Ace natural leaders – Maybe you’re not among the world’s greatest animators or app developers, but if you understand how to get the best out of the people who are, then this could be the career for you. There’s a real need for leaders in creative companies.

Very people-minded – Do people like working with you? A good life outside work with hobbies and friends makes you more interesting and probably gives you more creative ideas.

Excellent team players  -- This is not an industry for loners. Do you enjoy working in groups, sometimes with people you don’t know? You won’t always be the star of the show and you might not even get your own desk.
